Make a donation to the UMCS Annual Giving Drive
Dear UMCS community,
I am writing today to share about the unique and meaningful work we are doing at Urban Montessori Charter School and how you can help support our vision for Public Montessori here and beyond. We all choose to be part of this community for a variety of reasons, from the unique learning opportunities, proximity to your home, our diverse staff and student body, and many more reasons. I choose to be here at UMCS because I am all in for public Montessori and I am all in for our community here in Oakland. Because of this I live here, work here, and send my own children to this school. I believe Montessori education is the best way to support the positive growth of all people and that it needs to be available to more families.
At UMCS we are committed to offering Montessori learning to Oakland students free of charge and this is no small task! Montessori classrooms are expensive to run and private Montessori schools in the Bay Area often charge tuition between $20,000 - $45,000 a year. At UMCS we provide Montessori learning to all students primarily on public dollars: about $12,000 per year or $65 for each day students are present at school (every absence impacts our budget regardless of the reason!).
We invite you to make a lasting impact at UMCS and in support of greater access to Public Montessori learning for all by donating to our program.
Here’s how your donation makes a difference:
$5 supports healthy snack for a student for a week
$50 supports 3 new books for a classroom library
$500 supports one new Montessori material for a classroom (Golden Beads)
$1500 supports a lead teacher’s yearly professional development stipend
$5000 supports a staff member in our in-house, tuition-free, Montessori Teacher Training program for one year!
